10 Best Nigerian (Naija) Albums Released In 2017

Hello guys, we’ve taken sometime out to compile our list for the 10 best Nigerian album in 2017.

This list was critically judged based on content, delivery, lyrics, production and how enjoyable the album is..

This review has not taken into account; HYPE, popularity of the artiste, popular view on album nor how many records got sold, but purely based on talent and delivery.

Enjoy the review below and let us know what you think.

10. Tiwa Savage – Sugarcane [EP]

While Tiwa Savage‘s latest body of work might not be an album, Listening to the 6 track EP Sugarcane feels very refreshing and full of content.  Sugarcane is a blend of Afropop and RnB. Listening to this album will make you want more from the queen of Mavin. We hope she maintains the same concert in her next album and hopefully in 2018 she will maintain the queen status.

She’s up here only because it’s a 6 tracks EP. 🙂

9. iLLbliss – illy Bomaye

illy Bomaye by iLLbliss is probably one of the best rap album in 2017. The 9 tracks album is a reflection of iLLbliss life as summarised in 26 minutes.

The album is shot and fresh. Good production, average lyrical content but full of wisdom and easy to follow storyline

Listen to the album below.

8. Niniola – This Is Me

Perfect RnB/pop album for all of you lovers of R&B and pop lovers. Niniola completely switched up after the release of her single Maradona. I don’t think there was any better time to release her album than now. The album This Is Me is a statement by Niniola and if you love the perfect blend of English and Yoruba then go cop this album and you won’t regret it.

7. D’banj – King Don Come

D’banj has made as Big statements with king don come album
He has proofed to Nigerians that he’s not one to write off With the release of his new album. The album is 12 tracks long. The album is international focused, featuring pop, afrobeats and trap music. From the start to the finish of the album, it boasts of quality production and lyrical content, the album features Maleek Berry K-switchPhyno, Gucci Mane and Wande Coal. etc. When you talk of surprises in terms of album and Performance D’banj King Don Come album is one of such. Listen to the album and you will be left astonishing.

6. Falz – 27

Falz surprises his fans with an unexpected album release on his birthday titled “27“. After listening to the album and the level of though that was put into the lyrics and production, it makes you wonder why no hype was given to this body of work before the release date

27 is a 17 track album and features a number of top acts such as Burna Boy, Olamide, Wande Coal, Ycee. If you want a good rap and comic album to listen to; then Falz 27 is the best album for you.

5. Yung L – Better Late Than Never

The album Better Late Than Never is a smooth album with a collection of great songs. Its one of the easiest albums to listen to in 2017, Yung L‘s talent can’t be questioned after listening to the 19 tracks album.

Despite how long the album appears to be, you won’t get tired listening to it. I urge you to listen to BLTN and thank me later.

4. Wizkid – Sounds From The Other Side (SFTOS)

Sounds From The Other Side (SFTOS) represents growth in Africa / Nigerian music and also for the artiste Wizkid. SFTOS is an album that focuses on international dominance, an introduction of the African / Caribbean sound into international market. Which has been successful as seen in his grammy nomination and recent international award at the 2017 MOBO.

While many expected the Ojuelegba singer to infuse his Ojuelegba routes into his international album, Wizkid has begged to differ as he dropped completely new sound. The songs might not have been that popular in Nigeria but that doesn’t take away the fact that the album is dope and worth a listen.

3. Mr Eazi – Accra to Lagos

The influence of Ghanaian sound on Mr Eazi can not be over emphasised, this is evident on this Mixtape or “album” “Accra To Lagos” and despite working with Nigerian and Ghanaian producers, the Ghanaian sound is still predominant.

The debut album by Mr Eazi was literary one of the most  anticipated album of 2016 – 2017. The album has great songs from start to finish.

I doubt there’s someone that hasn’t listened to this album yet ?, will spare you the details

2. Ric Hassani – The African Gentleman

Ric Hassina is the perfect blend of Craig David, Boyz II Men and Kaysha. Listening to this amazing young talent will make you love music all over again. The consistent use of African instruments mixed with foreign RnB blend did it completely for me on this album “The African Gentleman

It is a wonderful and creative album, one that will go down as an evergreen. I can’t but wait for Ric Hassani to take his alternative sound globally in 2018.

1. Simi – Simisola

Simi’s album Simisola was released 8 Sept. 2017. The album features only Adekunle Gold and it’s a 15 tracks album. Simisola is a soul-Afro-Pop infused album made with so much sweetness and love. The 15 songs are packed with melody and good vibes, the kind of album you play and will never skip a song. The album has so much similarities with 2Face Grass to Grace album.

Simisola is our best album in 2017 and I challenge anyone to argue with this Simi’s position

Merry Christmas !!.
