Will Smith barred from Oscars

American actor Will Smith has been barred from attending Oscars Awards for the next 10 years.

This ban is the disciplinary action undertaken by the Academy, following Will Smith’s recent misconduct at the annual Oscars ceremony on March 27th.

At the recent 94th Oscars Awards ceremony, comedian and presenter Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett’s shaved head, Will Smith then rose from his seat, went up the stage, and slapped Rock on the face.

When Smith got back to his seat, he was heard yelling at Rock, saying “keep my wife’s name out of your fu—in’ mouth.”

Will Smith still won Best Actor at the ceremony.

Although Smith resigned from the Academy on April 1, the Academy has spelled out his punishment in an open letter by the Academy president and the CEO.

“Today, the Board of Governors convened a meeting to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars, in addition to accepting his resignation. The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.” Said Academy.

This ban means that Will Smith cannot attend any Oscars event until 2032.
