Davido Hardly Collaborates With UK Artistes (Here Could Be Some Reasons)
It is no longer news that Nigerian Superstar Singer Davido is one the most celebrated acts on the global scene but it quite visible he hardly boasts of collaborations with UK acts as much as he does in the U.S and Africa generally. He seems to consider them the least option on his Astronomical career.
Here are some reasons we feel are behind his perceived reticence on the British Scene unlike some of his colleagues such As Mr. Eazi, Wizkid and Burna Boy.
Firstly, Davido’s sound seems to suit the U.S Market more, because he does a milder version of Afro-Beats/ Afro-Fusion and so he is able to bridge the gap between both industries and has alot of rapport with most U.S rappers and singers. They see him as a figure head musically in Africa and believe his sound better. We can’t say same about his rapport with the U.K artistes.
Secondly, Davido is a huge rival to Wizkid and at some point in their careers they were sworn enemies, I think it was down to who they were more loyal to the more and the truth is Wizkid has a firm grip with British artistes more and this seems to make Davido Isolated. Even Eazi and Burna Boy has nice grip of the UK as well.
In addition, there was an incident in The UK where Davido was attacked in London During a show. It was later claimed that Davido was the first to fire the salvo as he ordered his boys to beat up someone but he met his match as they were overpowered and some gang of boyz stormed his show and almost beat him up but he escape. Aside this, he doesn’t seem to have good relationships with the UK environment generally.
In addition, he sent so many vicious attacks on then Wizkid‘s Management “Disturbing London” and even threatened a diss track in 2017. He recently even said in one of his song “One thing” on “A Good Time” album last year that “I’m Looking for girls in London, but dey put me on a long thing, Omo na long thing”.
This lyrics isn’t to be taken too seriously but it appears he has issues with the U.K to a large extent. He has dropped so many singles and his 3 body of work and no U.K artiste is a guest feature or hardly gets him featured.
However, this is not to say he doesn’t have a fan base or has failed totally in The U.K as he had shut down the 02 Arena few years back and also had a big collaboration with British singer Jay Sean in 2017 but generally from observations he doesn’t seem to feel at home in UK as he does in the U.S.
