Meet Oxlade: Nigeria’s Most Organically Growing Artist

You’re a step behind if you haven’t listened to any song by Oxlade, Nigeria’s most growing artist. The Nigerian music community is currently being flooded with so many emerging artists like Rema and Fireboy DML which makes it pardonable if you miss out on some great talents.

Nigerian melodic singer and super talented songwriter, Oxlade is one of those rare talents you should f*ck with. His sounds are extraordinarily spectacular. Unlike Mavin records, Rema and YBNL’s Fireboy DML, Oxlade has maintained a slow-paced growth in his career.

The young and talented afrobeat, afro-soul, and alternative singer obviously lack the financial backup Rema and Fireboy DML is opportune to have, hence his slow growth. The limited financial backup he has is now an advantage to him as it has given him the opportunity to tap into the Nigerian market, engaging and retaining real fans.

Ikuforiji Abdulrahman Olaitan professionally known as Oxlade is a Lagos-based singer who has repeatedly shown resilience in joining the pack of the new leaders of African music industry. He dished out his debut EP in 2019 tagged “OXYGENE”. The 6-track album featuring Moelogo has now amassed over 11.2 million streams on audiomack with his lead single “Away” recording 1.7 million streams on YouTube.

Rema, Fireboy DML and Joeboy came out strong with record label support and funds to dominate the Nigerian music industry in 2019. In 2020, Port Harcourt born Omah Dibia better known as Omah Lay took the center stage.

He popped up in the speed of light accessing financial back up to skyrocket his reach. Omah Lay at the moment has overridden Oxlade with his debut EP “Get Layd” with the help of the huge funds infused into the promotion of this project.

Oxlade on the other hand has been doing it the most organic way ever. He has kept it natural, the talent is evolving, the promotion is getting dynamic and the fan base is only growing periodically rather than exponentially. Oxlade and the Plug Music Management understands the power of organic growth and has tapped deep into it to ensure Oxlade’s success doesn’t fade away.

His materials are super exciting which could only be the reason he has been able to triple his fan base in no distant time.

Oxlade to me, should be a role model to all independent artists out there. You can do it alone with hard work, persistency, patience and collaborations. He has worked with DJ Tunez, Reekado Banks, Blaqbonez, Simi, Davido, Skip Marley, Sarkodie, Melvitto, Julz, Falz, etc.

Oxlade has been able to refine his sounds and transport it to all corners of the country and beyond with a very limited budget. This is thought provoking.

Do well to check out his materials and do thank us for being your ‘plug’.
