Few days ago, the battle for Hip TV’s Next Rated Category of The Headies Award 2020 was “fierce” on twitter between Omah Lay and Laycon.
The Headies Award is the most prestigious award in Nigeria. Its Next Rated category is ‘must have’ for every new artist on the block.
For some reason, this year’s top contenders seem to be Afrobeats singer, Omah Lay and newest rapper on the block, Laycon.
Since his entrance to the BBNaija season 5 TV show, Laycon has been an artist that has caught the attention of every one. This led to him winning the show.
During the first few weeks of the show, Laycon’s second EP, “Who Is Laycon?” received wide recognition within Nigeria and even beyond Africa.
The EP is a mix up of Rap, Afrobeats and Pop. It has several fine sounds including “fierce” which sees the versatility of Chinko Ekun and Reminisce. It has since gotten over 15 million streams on all media platforms.

Omah Lay on the other hand, is a Port Harcourt born artist who has worked his way to the top over time with his good songs and melodious voice.
His debut EP, “Get Layd” has been a huge success, having gathered over 200 million streams. With popular songs like “Lo Lo” and “Bad Influence”.
The award winning artist is getting set to drop his second EP, “WHAT HAVE WE DONE”, in a few days time.
