Let’s Talk: Can Wizkid Beat 4-Time Grammy Award Winner Angélique Kidjo At The Upcoming Grammys?
Between Wizkid and Angelique kidjo who’s winning the 2022 Grammy Awards?
Nigerian singer Wizkid, 31, is one the most celebrated music artistes in the world presently. He is also a one-time Grammy winner.
His 4th studio album Made In Lagos has not stopped winning awards or left the Billboard World Album Charts since its release in October 2020.
Essence, the most outstanding song on Made In Lagos, went double-platinum in the US in March 2022. It’s the first African album to do so.
In addition, Made In Lagos is the longest-charting African album of all time on the Billboard World Album Charts, having spent over 70 weeks on the chart.
Wizkid is nominated in two categories at the 64th Grammy Award, which is scheduled to hold in Las Vegas on April 4, 2022.
Made In Lagos is nominated in the Best Global Album category, and Essence is in the Best Global Music Performance category.
Angélique Kidjo, 60, is one of the greatest artistes in the world, with thirteen albums to her name.
Forbes Magazine has ranked her as the first woman in their list of the Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa. She is from Benin and she is a 4-time Grammy Award winner.
Her 2021 album, Mother Nature, is nominated in the same category with Wizkid’s Made In Lagos, the Best Global Music Album category.
On Mother Nature, Angélique Kidjo featured Nigerian artistes Burna Boy, Mr Eazi and Yemi Alade.
Again, Angelique kidjo is nominated in the Best Global Music Performance, making it two nominations (the same categories Wizkid is nominated). Her song off Mother Nature titled “Do Yourself,” which featured Nigerian Grammy award winner Burna Boy, is nominated for Best Global Music Performance.
Can Wizkid Beat Angelique kidjo At the Grammys?
Although Wizkid won his first Grammy award in 2021 when Beyonce’s Brown Skin Girl, in which Wizkid was featured, won Best Music Video, he’s being nominated for his own project this time.
But Wizkid is up there with a strong contender, Angélique Kidjo. She is a legend and has won it four times already. She was also the one who stopped Burna Boy from winning the Grammy award for Best Global Music Album in 2020.
Should Wizkid defeat Angélique Kidjo on Monday 4, April, 2022, his victory will be remembered for generations.
