Before Angélique Kidjo joined Grammy as a board member, she had been a repeated recipient of the most prestigious music Awards. Her last award at the 2022 Grammys, however, became controversial when netizens argued whether she deserved it or not.

The category in which she won, Best Global Music Album, had one of Nigerian biggest artists, Wizkid, who they (netizens) thought should have won.

After winning the award, she had to disable her Instagram comments section of the self-congratulatory post she made because of online trolls.

Some days later, after the whole online drama, Wizkid sent her a congratulatory message via his IG stories.
