Rema sets YouTube record

Jonzing World/Mavin Records’ megastar, Rema, has set a new YouTube record, surpassing Wizkid and other Nigerian co-artists.

Rema, 22, set this record when his chart-topping single “Calm Down” became the fastest song by a Nigerian artist to reach 70 million views on YouTube.

“Calm Down’s” official video surpassed 70 million views on YouTube under 4 months. This had not been done before. And the only Nigerian artist with a close record is Wizkid, whose video for “Essence” now has about 91 million views in one year.

As a matter of fact, while writing this story, “Calm Down” had accumulated 72 million views, becoming the only Nigerian song with such huge daily streams on YouTube.

Calm Down” was the lead single off his March 25 album “Rave & Roses”, which has reached 100 million streams on Spotify; it was released on February 11, this year and had been teased by Rema a few days before released.

In the teaser, which he shared on Instagram, he was vibing to the song while driving a roofless car. Soon after the song was released, it was followed by a DK-directed video.
