The ‘Calm Down’ crooner, who has become one of the popular faces in Afrobeats genre globally, recently linked up with UK’s popular magazine Rolling Stone, where he talked about his career.

Rema told Rolling Stone that D’Prince, owner of Jonzing World Entertainment, convinced him to do Afrobeats when he got signed to Jonzing/Mavin Records.

Rema used to be a rapper and was previously in a rap group called RNA. However, after meeting D’Prince in 2018 he switched to Afrobeats genre.

Explaining how the transition came about, Rema told Rolling Stone that D’Prince convinced him, telling him to give Afrobeats a try.

He said, ‘D’Prince told me that he likes my voice, and he feels like I’m gonna sound really good on Afrobeats. I told him I don’t really do Afrobeat, I just rap, so he said, “Give it a try”’.
