“Wizkid owes the Nigerian rap community and music lovers an Apology” – Maskking
Maskking believes that we should be more loyal to our values than people. He made mentioned the fact that people are carried away by the WOW factor effect of celebrity fame which makes them unable to criticize a wrong most times. They are very afraid to criticize the wrong of their icons because of their loyalty and this has led to crowd silencing when anyone stands up to say the truth, especially against famous people.
Fans of a popular celebrity (Wizkidaddicts) called out popular Nollywood actress Ogbodo and rapper Oladips for criticizing Wizkid. They have since apologized to Wizkid. My question is, does being a superstar put you above the error lane? As human beings, are we above imperfections? Sometimes we cross the line, but it doesn’t put us above criticisms, even the American President is being criticized, Michael Jackson was criticized. Nigerians should abandon that bandwagon mentality of idolizing people and failing to see their flaws. That is why politicians continue to play on the pitch with the electorates like Maradona. There is no end to exploitation and oppression.
Wizkid owes the Nigerian rap community and music lovers an apology. His recent comments have left more to be desired him. He has spoken about being single despite expecting a second child from his Baby Mama, said he was going to have his last show in Lagos, a city he apparently argued built him. And the last one that sent the internet agog was rappers are broke and rap is dead. These statements could be very depressing.
He may be speaking coded messages, but I doubt if many people really understand what message he is trying to pass across.
We need to support our celebrities not derail them morally and the only way is for us to be more loyal to our values. Nigeria needs men and women who can always make constructive criticism if we want an egalitarian society where everyone’s right is guaranteed.
