Shanty Town Or Blood Sisters, Which Is Nigeria Best Netflix Series?
Shanty Town versus Blood Sisters, which of these is Nigeria’s best Netflix series?
One of the most intriguing aspects of Netflix’s foray into Nollywood, which is Nigeria’s film and television industry, is that the dramas that have come from that country are in (mostly) English and have themes that are relatable to audiences all over the world. The series it has produced also have been of great value. Here we explore which is the best series between Shanty Town and Blood Sisters.
The beautiful thing about comparing these two series is that they are both crime thrillers, while Shanty Town investigates the crime of the underworld and political cabals, Blood Sisters talks about power play and influence of gender roles in the Nigeria traditional system.
Shanty Town
Shanty Town is about a group of female sex workers (Mercy Eke, Nancy Isime and others) who are trying to escape the slum of the Shanty Town in Lagos, where they are subjected to the brutal rule of a kingpin named Scar (Chidi Mokeme). Scar, though, won’t give the girls up so easily as they are part of his money making machine.
Shanty Town tells a story about human nature by weaving a story of lies and deceit within a story of crime and romance. It shows the Nigeria political scene and many wild things happening underground.
Blood Sisters
In Nigeria, the head of a powerful pharmaceutical business announces to the crowd that he is leaving for his wedding as soon as he complete a significant contract (Deyemi Okanlawon). In an opulent hotel, he would wed Sarah Duru (Ini Dima Okojie). This is a crime thriller that explores the gender roles in the Nigerian tradition.
Blood Sisters principally follows the narrative of two best friends, Sarah and Kemi, who become fugitives after murdering a man. They find themselves fleeing away from the cops and the vicious family of their victim.
Which of these crime thrillers is the best series to you?
