Why Asake May Fade Away In 2023 [Author’s Opinion]
Asake is one of the fastest-rising stars the Nigerian music industry has ever witnessed. His growth is partly thanks to his style which is unique to him. But, there are concerns that he may fade away in 2023.
Before diving into why Asake may fade away, it’s also worthy to note that the singer’s rise to stardom was without controversies, just his art. A big shout-out to his label and team as well!
However, maintaining longevity in the ever-changing music industry, which welcomes new talents every now and then, requires more than creating monster hits that only last a few months on airplay. Longevity, as simple as it may sound, is the worst fear of every artist. No artist wants to lose relevance, for once it’s lost, it’s over!
Truth be told, nevertheless, Asake might fade away in 2023 for some reason.
Here Are 3 Possible Reasons Why Asake May Fade Away in 2023
Lack of Dynamism
Asake hasn’t shown versatility in his sound. There has been no improvement in his sound since he got into the limelight. But, there’s a need for him to give us something really different and new and to stop rinsing his songs again and again. He can’t remain relevant with this kind of vibe. Take his latest single ‘2:30’ for example, it sounds like two tracks merged together. It’s high time Asake diverse, or he may fade away!
Overuse of his Local Language
Another hitch and why Asake may fade away in 2023 is his overuse of Yoruba in his songs. The standard set for him isn’t that of a local artist but that of a global one. For instance, Empire, a global label, now distributes his music, meaning that his audience and fanbase are expanding into foreign countries. Even in Nigeria, many of his fans who aren’t Yoruba complain of getting tired of his overuse of Yoruba.
Change in Public Taste
There have been talks among music listeners that Asake’s music is repetitive and is thus becoming boring. One of his last two songs, ‘Yoga’, was almost a commercial flop. It faded away like it was never released. His latest song, ‘2:30’, is also receiving backlash on social media for sounding like his old records. As listeners, it’s only normal that we want to hear something different. The public ain’t that patient, I hope Asake remembers.
