Album Review: Seyi Vibez Masters The Art Of Afro-Fusion On 'Thy Kingdom Come'

Fueled by rivalry or not, Seyi Vibez has mastered the art of Afro-Fusion as he mix with Afrobeat with Highlife and Fuji on recent works, including on ‘Thy Kingdom Come’

Riding on the waves of his success, Seyi Vibez  third body of work this year . Following the success of Memory Card which he released in the beginning of the year, Vibe Till Thy Kingdom Come that he released few weeks ago, Seyi Vibez is back with another album.

A 10 track album feature Phyno. Thy Kingdom Come is perhaps a continuation of Vibe Till Thy Kingdom Come. Seyi Vibez from these has shown he is a very serious artiste who is very serious with his work. Many believe he is being fueled by the recent rivalry with Zinoleesky, however, the artistic mind can not be denied.

Although often classified as a Street-Hop musician, Seyi Vibez seems more like an Afro-Fusion fusion as he has mastered the art on mastering different genre of music to his Afrobeat. Surprisingly, the instrumentals he usually sing over were influenced by Afrobeat as well as other styles. The album provides a showcase for the singer-songwriter’s versatility as an artiste.

The track “Professor” sprinkles Amapiano log drumming across an otherwise Afrobeats tune. The song is overrun with saxophone and piano chord sections that occasionally conflict and become confusing, however the message of the song is well passed.

Seyi Vibez has a powerful voice and an honest, heartfelt delivery. When he has a choir backing him up, as on the catchy chorus of “Man of the Year,” the effect is magnified.

The Amapiano instrumentals are interrupted by a Highlife interlude starring Phyno. The sparse chords float above the minimal drum pattern. The song’s tempo and tone have slowed considerably, but Seyi Vibez still employs his signature vocals.
