Edo Music Legend, Monday Igbinidu Slams 200m Naira Copyright Infringement Suit On Shallipopi
Edo music legend, Monday Igbinidu has slammed a 200 million naira copyright infringement lawsuit on fast-rising singer Shallipopi.
The veteran musician, popularly known as Monday Edo Igbinidu, sued Crown Uzama, Shallipopi, for illegally sampling of his song ‘Ovonramwen’ in his—Shallipopi’s—song ‘Obapluto’.
In a letter sent through Igbinidu’s lawyers, Chris Otasowie & Associates, on July 25, the singer demanded Shallipopi pay him a sum of 200 million naira and also tender a public apology.
The letter partly read: ‘To pay the sum of N200,000,00.00 (Two hundred million naira) only as damages to our client for the infringement on his copyright. “A written apology published in at least two notable and widely read Newspapers and on all social media handles used by you for the promotion of your infringement of our client’s copyright’.
On the other end, Shallipopi or his team has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
