It Was Over For ‘Them’ When I Was Allowed Into UK After 7 Years – Burna Boy
Nigerian music star Burna Boy has disclosed that it took him seven years to level up with colleagues, and hit global stardom, because of a long ban in the UK.
During a recent podcast, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), Burna Boy, who debuted with the song ‘Like To Party’ in 2012, says his colleagues had a head start for seven years, as he was unable to travel to the United Kingdom until 2016.
He further mentions what he said just as soon as the seven-year ban lifted, and he touched down in the UK: ‘The first thing I said after I thank God and all that– I said, “it is over for y’all!”’
‘The only reason it wasn’t over the whole time,’ he continues, ‘is ‘cause I wasn’t allowed to leave my continent really, for seven years of my whole career. So that’s a head start for everyone and for– you know what I mean?’

There have been different reactions to the video, from X users, many of whom are fans of Wizkid and Davido, the two artists that are considered Burna Boy’s peers, and also members of the ‘Big 3’, a phrase fans have long decided on to use in referring to the ‘three’ top rated Afrobeats artists – Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.
