Show Promoters Ignored Me Because I Left My Label – Mohbad’s Last Interview Surfaces [Video]
An interview has surfaced of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, in which he narrated how show promoters stopped calling him for shows because he left his label.
Mohbad, whose real name is Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, passed away earlier today, Tuesday (September 12) after a brief illness.
While tributes have been pouring in for Mohbad from colleagues and from fans, an interview he did last month (August) at City FM, surfaced on the internet.
In the video shared on X, Mohbad said show promoters stopped booking him for shows after he left his label, Marlian Records.
He further stated that promoters kept calling his former label, thinking he was still signed to them, but they were told he wasn’t ‘okay’.
‘Show promoters don’t want to pick me up for shows because I left a label–’ he said. ‘If they want to reach out to me, they keep going back to the label, and the label keep saying “–that boy is not okay; he is going through a lot.”’
He revealed he found out about the scheme when ‘One Africa Music Fest’ reached out to him directly, to book him, and asked if he was ‘okay’ to perfrom.
He said, ‘One Africa Fest, they have to call me to ask me, “Bro , are you really okay? Can you do the show?” and I was like, “Why do ask if I am okay?” and they said, “The label you left said you’re not okay.”’
