The year 2023 is an illustrious year for Nigerian music. So many good albums were released. Picking the top 20 nigerian music album of 2023 is a great task. The following are our top 20 albums of 2023.

20. Flavour – African Royalty

African Royalty features just three acts  including Ejyk Nwamba, a popular Ogene musician in South-East Nigeria. The Cavemen is on it too — we can call this the meet of Highlife maestros. The third guest artist on the album is Efya  from Ghana . This is a very electrifying album.

19. Odumodublvck – Eziokwu

The Def Jam Recordings new signee unveiled his 14-track mixtape, ‘Eziokwu’, on October 6, comprising pre-released ‘Declan Rice’, ‘Dog Eat Dog II’ (feat. Cruel Santino, Bella Shmurda), ‘MC Oluomo’, and ‘Firegun’ (feat. Fireboy DML).

18. Teni – Tears Of The Sun

The album tears of the sun by Teni is a well arranged song with great composition and extremely sweet melody. The 16 track album showcases different aspects of life, the need to have God and the need to have money, while still talking about love and sadness.

The album feature Made Kuti and Odumodublvck. From the first track to the last, Teni Apata showed solid versatility and enormous musical talent on this album.

17. Mr Eazi – Evil Genius

This record, which took two and a half years to complete, is the long-awaited album that everyone has been waiting for. We now got a complete body of work from Mr. Eazi – The Evil Genius after he had named his mixtapes after probable destinations and sites of invention for years. You may call it a contrasting title.

16. Ruger – Ru The World

Early on Friday, September 1, Jonzing World’s signee Ruger, real name Michael Adebayo, dropped his first-ever album ‘Ru The World’, as promised, coming after three highly-acclaimed EPs released in the last two years.

‘Ru The World’ comprises 17 tracks, including five collaborations with Stefflon Don, Projexx, Sauti Sol, Govana, and Jugglerz each, productions wielded by Kukbeatz, Legendury Beatz, Frankie, Jugglerz, TSB, Thekidparris, Cadenza, and Benjiflow.

15. Tekno – The More The Better

Tekno makes a huge splash in the music industry with his second studio album, The More The Better, in what might be considered a reawakening. Tekno confirms his reputation as a master composer of catchy tunes that formerly ruled the Afrobeats genre from the early to mid-2010s throughout this enjoyable effort.

14. Joeboy – Body & Soul

Joeboy is well-known for his sound, which combines elements of R&B and Afropop. He crafts songs that are relevant to his audience by employing addictive rhythms, memorable melodies, and emotionally honest lyrics. This was demonstrated perfectly on his ground-breaking debut album titled Love & Light. And the new album Body & Soul further proves Joeboy’s kingship.

This album is a solid work of art, though it did not maintain the same message throughout, there are very great songs to listen to there as they showcase aesthetics and the melodies are infectious.

13. Nonso Amadi – When It Blooms

The ability of Nonso Amadi to compose compelling Afro-R&B songs has always been undeniable. On his first album When It Blooms, the self-taught Canadian singer-producer shows off his talent by skillfully navigating through each track and creating a seamless harmony between the production, sound engineering, and vocals.

12. Omah Lay – Boy Alone Deluxe

Coming with a Deluxe edition is not easy, however Omah Lay was able to make the Boy Alone Deluxe edition make a very valid statement.

While a lot of afrobeat artistes want to sing about lewd lyrics, Omah Lay has harnessed his own sound and he has been given the term Afro depression. The singer sings about philosophy, psychology and pains. With six songs added to this deluxe version, Omah Lay maintained the theme of the album.

11. Oladips – Superhero Adugbo

The album Superhero Adugbo by the late Oladips talk about his growth as a kid from a struggling family up to how he signed to RRR record label. Superhero Adugbo, the 17 track album featured Trod and every track was well arranged in a way that will ease you into the next track.

10. Kizz Daniel – Maverick

The singer showed the reason why he is called ‘Mr No Bad Songs’, from the first track to the last track of the 20 tracks album, Kizz Daniel showed his talent, tells story, deliver impeccable lyrics and find a way not to lose his originality while trying some new things.

9. Olamide – Unruly

Unruly’ consists of 15 tracks and spans 40 minutes; only five tracks are collaborations featuring some of the most popular ‘new school’ Nigerian artists: AsakeBNXN (fka Buju), CKayFireboy DML, and Rema.

The album is a collection of 12 tracks, performed only by him. On it, he reflects on his past, the ups-downs, while also counting his blessings.

8. Patoranking – World Best

The album, which is his fourth, features notable artsits like Kizz Daniel, Popcaan, Gyakie, Victony, Ludacris, and Diamond Platnumz.

It dropped early on Tuesday, 5 September 2023, and is available on major digital streaming platforms, such as Spotify.

‘World Best’, comprising 15 tracks, took Patoranking three years to release, following his ‘Three’ album, released 27 August 2020, which is equally preceded by ‘Wilmer’, from 2019.

7. BNXN – Sincerely Benson

Bnxn started teasing ‘Sincerely, Benson’ last year, after he won the Headies’ Next Rated award in Atlanta and received a new Bentley car in return. He released ‘Gwagwalada’ (feat. Kizz Daniel and Seyi Vibez) on 16 Feb. 2023 as the first official single of the album.

6. Adekunle Gold – Tequila Ever After

Adekunle (AG) Gold’s fifth studio album, Tequila Ever After, is his longest album and his first under Def Jam Africa. It was inspired by his playful with tequila. AG has collaborated with nine artists on this album, which is a record for him. “Chasing Peace of Mind” is a sluggish start to the album, but it was “Party No Dey Stop,” with its carnival motif, that really got the crowd in the mood for the record.

5.Seyi Vibez – Thy Kingdom Come

Seyi Vibez, the current rave, declares himself to be the man of the year in “Man of the Year.” Maybe he is. As of 2023, the song is his most played song on Spotify with over six million plays. The song is the lead single from the catchy album Thy Kingdom Come.

4. Burna Boy – I Told Them

The album’s worldwide popularity is increased by notable collaborations with notable Hip-Hop giants including Dave, RZA, GZA, and J. Cole, among others. Although songs like “City Boys,” “Sittin’ on Top of the World,” and “Big 7” are geared at a Western audience, Burna Boy makes care to maintain a strong domestic presence with songs like “Giza,” which features breakout singer Seyi Vibez, “Dey Play,” and “On Form.”

3. Blaqbonez – Emeka Must Shine

Blaqbonez tries new sound and rhythms on ‘Emeka Must Shine’ , jettison hardcore rap

The album started with the high-energy, mid-tempo “Road Runners”, featuring Ghanaian sensation Black Sheriff supported by vibrant lead guitars and subtle chords, is a heartfelt way in which the singer talks about his journey from a struggling rapper to one of the best in the job.

2. Asake – Work Of Art

In just under two years since the release of his breakthrough single, Asake has once again established his dominance in the pop landscape of Africa. From the chart-topping single “Lonely at the Top” to the evidently popular hits “2.30” and “Amapiano” to deep cuts like “I Believe,” “Sunshine,” and “What’s Up My G,” which shine exceptionally on this record, this is a remarkable feat by all measures.

1. Davido – Timeless

 The 17 track album is a prove to the creativity of Davido, mixing different genre of music together is no small play but the artiste did it successfully. This is our number 1 music alb of the year 2023. Nominated for Grammy which happens to be Davido’s first time being nominated for the prestigious award.
