Who is Olamide’s best signee between Asake and Fireboy DML?
YBNL Records, owned by famous Nigerian rapper/singer Olamide, is one of the leading record labels in Africa presently. The label has produced many great talents in the Nigerian music industry. The most notable among them all, however, are Fireboy DML and Asake.
Fireboy got officially signed into YBNL in 2019 and released his first album the same year, which was an instant success. Following the massive commercial success of his debut album, Fireboy released ‘Apollo’ followed by ‘Playboy’, all within 3 years. Between ‘Apollo’ and ‘Playboy’, he dropped “Peru” and its remix with Ed Sheeran. It was successful and gave him his first Billboard Hot 100 entry, RIAA Gold and platinum cerifications, and more records.
Asake, on the other hand, came into the industry suddenly by the end of 2021. He dropped banger after banger, which all went top 1 in the country, before sealing his masterclass run with an album ‘Mr Money With The Vibes’. Presently, he’s one of the most sought-after artists in Africa. All his shows are quickly sold out, including UK shows of thousand-people capacity.
What’s most surprising in all of these is the fact that Asake has barely spent one year in the industry! It’s safe to say that no Nigerian artist has had it this quick before!
Looking at the way Asake is moving, it’s a matter of time before he catches up to Fireboy.
