Four (4) Reasons Why Vinicius Jr Doesn’t Deserve to Win the Ballon d’Or
Vinicius Jr as we all know has lost the most coveted men’s football award the “Ballon d’Or” to Rodri of Spain. The midfield anchor man who has guided his side to remarkable success in the English premier league and Euros 2024 was awarded the golden ball.
As always, there has been sparking outrage and wails of blatant robbery by Real Madrid, Brazilians, as they claim Vinicius Jr is more deserving of the award.
Now I’m going to break it down and explain three compelling reasons why Vinicius Jr. wasn’t worthy to be crowned the winner.
Underwhelming Individual Stats
When it comes to individual performance, Vinicius Jr.’s stats are far from impressive to be considered a Ballon d’Or winner. Scoring only 15 goals in La Liga as a winger pales in comparison to Jude Bellingham’s 19 league goals for Real Madrid despite being a midfielder.
Even Lautaro Martinez outshined him with a staggering 35 goals and 8 assists across all competitions. Winning the Ballon d’Or requires more than just flashy dribbling and pace; it demands consistent, high-level contributions that Vinicius simply didn’t deliver last season.
Trophy Count Matters
Vinicius Jr. may have celebrated both Laliga and Champions League victories, but he didn’t secure the most silverware. Rodri not only won the Euros with Spain but also won the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.
If anyone besides Rodri deserved recognition, it would be Dani Carvajal, who played a pivotal role in Real Madrid’s success. Trophies are a crucial metric for evaluating a player’s impact, and in this regard, Vinicius falls short.
Disappointing International Performance
On the international stage, Vinicius Jr.’s performance was lackluster at best. He managed just two goals for Brazil and failed to secure any trophies during a disappointing Copa America campaign where Brazil was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
In stark contrast, Rodri shone brightly for Spain during their Euro 2024 triumph, solidifying his status as a top-tier player on the world stage. Lautaro Martinez also excelled, winning the Copa America while being one of its standout performers.
Class and Fair Play
Lastly, Vinicius Jr.’s conduct on the pitch raises questions about his character. Incidents of altercations with opponents and his tendency to invoke racism claims often detract from his image as a classy player. The Ballon d’Or criteria emphasize not just talent but also sportsmanship and integrity.

In summary, while Vinicius Jr. is undoubtedly a talented player with potential, his stats, trophy count, international performance, and on-field behavior do not align with what it takes to win the Ballon d’Or. Instead, let’s celebrate Rodri’s achievements instead of lamenting what could have been!
