“First Nigerian To win Grammy Award Is Not Burna Boy” – Reno Omokri
Former presidential spokesman Reno Omokri says that Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy is not the first Nigerian Grammy award winner.
On Twitter today, Reno praises the Yoruba race as ‘the most successful ethnic group in Nigeria’.
Buttressing his point, he highlights some achievements of the Yoruba race in Nigeria. Among them, he states that the first Grammy-award winner in Nigeria was a Yoruba man.
Then, one of his followers, trying to correct him, points out that ‘Burna Boy is not from the enthic group of Yoruba’.

In response to the follower, Reno underscores that Burna Boy is not the first Nigerian to win a Grammy and that few Nigerians (who are all of the Yoruba race) have won it in the past.
His statement reads:
‘Dear @UzorOnuigbo, Burna Boy is not the first Nigerian to win a Grammy. The first, second, third and fourth Nigerians to win Grammies are, Sade Adu (86), Babatunde Olatunji (1991), Sikiru Adepoju (1991) and Seal (1996). All are Yoruba. Thanks and God bless’.

@tommy, out of the 4 listed, sade Adu was born in Nigeria but left Nigeria at age 4, Seal was born and brought up in UK. But the remaining 2 were born and bread in this country. Please make your research well.

Sorry you actually don’t know what you talking about, do you know how many international record label borna is signed to,if am not mistaking 2or3,do you know how many international artists featured on that album? What about the diddy and angeliq kidjo support he got, and mind you Grammy award is just like every other award its different is just how long it has been in existence ahead of others so gaining the popularity. So stop being sentimental about who wins Grammy award regardless of how you win when you have a Grammy you have it and even wizkidayo along side Beyonce was first announced before borna so if we want to say the fact wizkidayo won it first ahead of borna boy but we don’t need it we just have to keep pushing the good works to the pick
