Davido Reflect On His Pains, Struggles And Tenacity In “Stand Strong”

Published

on

Close to 2 years since the release of his A Better Time album, Davido is back again with a statement – a hope-themed song that explores the hidden pains and struggles he is going through in life.

The song produced by Pheelz is filled with percussion, a churchy choral vibes from The Samples and acoustic guitar which sets the theme of hope and never say die attitude. Davido maintained he is aware of the presence of naysayers and friendly enemies stabbing his back but won’t give in:

“Keep your head up high Even though your body full of bite marks from all dem canines” (All dem canines, yeah, yeah) Steady moving, I’m just living life. And so many people in my business, so many chookin’ eyes

Being aware of this, Davido went harder on the pre-chorus, where he addresses the theme of the presence of a supreme being over his life. This chorus makes him sound like a man pushed to the edge of a cliff, yet still believing in a supreme being, especially the soul of his dead mother:

My fears are easier to face now (Face now)In the front of my haters
Steady chasing my paper. Sipping Martel with no chaser
My steps are guided by Jehovah (Ooh-ooh). And my mama looking over (Ooh-ooh)
Yes, we rise by lifting others (Ooh-ooh). And that is the law of the lantern (Ooh-o

The chorus is exactly where OBO talks about his tenacity – something strong, deep, way beyond human comprehension. Because, in here, he declared that he has 9 plus lives.

[Chorus]
‘Cuz I stand Strong

Big fish flow like the Ocean ooh
Omo I stand Strong (Ooh-ooh)
30BG dey my back oh (Ooh-ooh)
O.B.O Elemi 9 plus (Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
Can’t deny my devotion, no

Stand Strong” is superb, from the mixing to the mastering, to the deep lyrical flavors oozed in by The Samples. This song is a masterpiece.
