Wizkid Becomes First African Act To Have Gold Album In The US
‘Made In Lagos’ has been officially certified as a gold album in the US, making Wizkid the first African Act to have a gold album in the US.
On Monday, August 1, Wizkid’s 2020 album ‘Made In Lagos’ reached the benchmark to accredit it a gold status in the US; that is, the album has sold over 500,000 copies in the US, as ChartsAfrica reports.
Few months earlier, the most popular song off ‘Made In Lagos’, ‘Essence‘ got a platinum plaque from the RIAA when it sold over a million copies.
Wizkid is the first African act to have a gold album in the US.
An album is awarded gold status once it has sold 500,000 copies and platinum once it has sold a million copies.
The latest certification comes ahead of Wizkid’s forthcoming album, which he titled ‘More Love, Less Ego’. There is no date set for the album’s release, but it’s possible that Ayra Starr, BNXN, Naira Marley, and TY Dollar $ign are featured on it, according to a Wizkid post earlier.
