“I Was Dating Ike Because Of Money” – Mercy Eke Reveals
Mercy Eke, the winner of Big Brother Naija season 4 revealed that relationships resulting from the reality TV program are a big scam.
In a conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she made this claim while reflecting on her broken romance with her co-star, Ike Onyema.
Recall that the two met on the 2019 season of BBNaija, began dating there and stayed together till the show’s finish. They even had a reality TV show called “Mercy & Ike” where they documented their love life and marriage plans. Sadly, their relationship ended in 2020.
Mercy Eke claimed in a recent interview that she only stayed with Ike due of the financial benefits; otherwise, she would have left him. Mercy claimed that at first, she really did like Ike, but that their relationship eventually turned into a performance that was primarily for the camera.
Her words:
“BBNaija relationships are the biggest scam, it was even original for me initially, as a matter of fact, if I had known that I was a strong housemate and that people loved me for me, I wouldn’t have bothered getting involved with him.
I wouldn’t say it was a strategy, for me, we flowed with it but we had to put up a show even when not happy for people who aren’t even in relationships. If it is not working out, you move but in my case I couldn’t, I had to be there cos of money, otherwise, I won’t have my complete money.”
