Tems Wins ‘Songwriter of the Year’ At 2023 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has won ‘Songwriter of the Year’ at the 2023 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.
Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, shined last night, September 6, at the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop awards, as she was declared ‘Songwriter of the Year’.
Her award was due to her amazing writing skills on three songs: ‘Free Mind’, her solo song; ‘Wait For You’, a 2022 Grammy-winning song by Future featuring her and Drake; and ‘Lift Me Up’, an award-winning song she wrote for Rihanna, for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s soundtrack.
Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, on Thursday afternoon, took to his X page, where he shared a short video of Tems being announced ‘Songwriter of the Year’, and showed gratitude to the BMI in the post’s caption.
‘Thank you @bmi,’ he captioned the post; see the post below.
