Man Escapes Death By The Whiskers After A Container Truck Fell On His Car
A shocking or rather miraculous incident unfolded on Monday morning, a man narrowly escaped death when a 40-foot container truck fell onto his Toyota Camry at Mile 2, Lagos. The event, which occurred around 8 a.m., left onlookers gasping and traffic around the mile 2 Apapa axis in chaos.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver, whose identity remains unknown, was fortunate to emerge with his life and limbs intact, thanks to the swift action of emergency responders. The container, which was en route to Apapa Ports, toppled onto the car, causing significant damage and raising concerns about road safety in the bustling area.
Fortunately, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency services acted quickly to rescue the trapped driver. He was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, while police from the Kirikiri Division secured the scene and managed the crowd.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, mentioned this statement: “This incident underscores the importance of properly securing containers during transport.” His statement is well founded especially in a city like Lagos where road safety is usually compromised by negligence.
As traffic resumed slowly, LASTMA officers remained on-site to ensure order and facilitate the removal of both the crushed vehicle and the fallen container. The timely intervention of these agencies not only saved a life but also prevented what could have been a catastrophic situation for other road users.
This incident raises important questions about transportation safety in Nigeria. Every day, an increasing number of heavy-duty vehicles ply our roads, without their loads being properly secured. The frequency of similar accidents calls for stricter regulations and enforcement to protect human lives.
