The Story Behind Tems’ Grammy-Winning Single “Wait for U” – Tems’ Manager Reveals
Muyiwa Awoniyi, also known as Donawon, the manager of Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Tems, recently revealed the journey behind her collaboration on the Grammy-winning single “Wait for U” with Drake and Future.
Tems, who rose to global acclaim with Essence, collaborated with renowned international stars like Rihanna and Beyoncé before working with Drake and Future.
In an interview, Donawon (Tems’ manager) recalled that while Tems was on a Coca-Cola project, he received an email from Epic Records, Future’s label, seeking clearance for “Wait for U,” which sampled her song Higher.
Interestingly, Drake was not initially on the track during the clearance, adding an unexpected twist to the single’s creation journey.
