A Decent Effort At A Rap Album With Limited Themes – Review of Olamide ‘999’ EP
The recent EP ‘999’ by Street Rap headboy Bad do himself Olamide is a welcome development at reviving his hip hop identity which has been dented For a while because of excessive Afro beat sound infusion in his discography.
The EP is a good way of encouraging hip hop heads to hit the booth again and spit some quality bars which we are happy about, but the album has a Limited scope as the themes centered on Money and some street vulgarity. Aside these, there isn’t so much of lyrical content and subject matter.
This is what happens when you pay more attention to Beats than Quality contents.
However, he did an excellent job on ‘No Time‘, ‘Demons’ and ‘Billion talk‘ ft. voice notes of his son Milly which are arguably the best tracks off this EP because they had classic head nodding elements with quality rap flows. The rest of tracks are typical Olamide I.e they will grow on you after so many radio airplays.
The EP had an appearance from Phyno on the track ‘Warlords‘ which has a production replica of Jay Z and Kanye West ‘No church in the wild’, he had another attempt at remaking Wo! With Womma which is the only Pop song on the EP. He also has a replica production of Asap Rocky’s ‘fuckin problems’ on dance with the devil.
Overall, the EP is an Ok effort with mixed feelings, but for the first time he used more English on his flows than before.
Overall rating 3/5
